JRH Applications for Editor
The NRHA seeks a new editor for the Journal of Rural Health
The Journal of Rural Health (JRH) serves to advance professional practice, research, theory development and public policy by serving as a medium for communication among health scientists and professionals.
JRH is a Medline-indexed journal that is published quarterly and has experienced steady growth in submissions. It receives an average of 165 manuscripts per year and publishes approximately 60 annually. JRH is expected to transition to a web-based submission and review-management system by the time the new editor assumes full responsibility.
The editor is responsible for evaluating all submissions, assigning peer reviewers, and making final publication decisions, as well as assuring overall journal quality and meeting production deadlines. The editor reports to the JRH Editorial Board.
The NRHA and the Editorial Board are currently soliciting letters of intent to apply for the position of editor of the Journal of Rural Health. Letters of intent are due no later than Thursday, July 31, and should include:
- a current curriculum vitae;
- a statement of why he or she wants to serve;
- a confirmation that institutional support is available for this position
Full applications for the position of editor will follow the letters of intent, and are due Sept. 1. Full applications must include:
- documented publication experience and samples of work;
- a statement outlining a vision of the future of the Journal;
- an organizational plan for managing the journal's editorial office, including name(s)/qualifications and proposed responsibilities of those who will be working with the editor;
- a budget outlining the editor's projected costs and institutional support (a negotiable stipend is available from the NRHA. The current stipend is approximately $49,000 annually).

A decision regarding the appointment of a new editor will be made in November, all applicants will be notified by early December. Upon notification, the new editorial team will immediately begin working with the current team to take over the coordination of publishing the spring 2009 issue.
